Private patient work at The Wells Suite, Tunbridge Wells Hospital, generated an income of over £6 million in the 2013/14 financial year.

Close to £1 million of this was profit that will be invested into Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust to provide better services and equipment for all patients cared for at Tunbridge Wells or Maidstone Hospital.

Private patient numbers grew by 55% over the previous financial year.

The private patient unit has 26 bedrooms and 4 outpatient clinic rooms. Patients can be referred by their GP or transfer their care to The Wells Suite at any stage of their treatment, using their private medical insurance or paying for themselves.

Patients receive consultant-led care with fast access to diagnosis or treatment. They benefit from all the facilities of a large NHS hospital, including immediate on-site access to emergency care.

Private patient work at The Wells Suite is carried out in addition to and not instead of the Trust’s regular NHS work. The income generated from The Wells Suite makes a considerable contribution to the running costs of Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.
