3D and 4D Ultrasound Pregnancy Scans
What is a 3D or 4D Obstetric Ultrasound?
Like other ultrasound scans during your pregnancy, 3D and 4D ultrasound scans use sound waves to create an image of your baby in your womb. 3D ultrasounds create a three-dimensional image of your baby, while 4D ultrasounds create a live video effect, so you can watch your baby smile or yawn in “real” time.
A 3D or 4D ultrasound can be carried out at any stage of the pregnancy but the optimal time is between 26 and 32 weeks. No GP referral is required and appointments are generally available at short notice
Who will do the scan?
Our 3D and 4D ultrasound scans are carried out by our specialist midwife sonographers.
What will happen?
The primary purpose of any scan is to assess the well-being of your baby, so first of all, our midwife sonographers will carry out a standard 2D Growth and Well-being Scan. They will then proceed to the 3D and 4D scan. The midwife sonographer passes a handheld device called an abdominal probe over your skin. It is this probe that sends out ultrasound waves and picks them up when they bounce back. Provided your baby is lying in an optimal position you will then be able to see moving images of your baby.
How much does it cost?
