Professional profile

Dr Bijay Baburajan graduated with a cumulative first class degree and then underwent specialist training in gastroenterology at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, The Freeman Hospital and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, London.

Dr Baburajan has a strong research background in both Human Genetics and Pharmacology and has been awarded a PhD by King’s College, London. Advances in these areas have made their way to clinical benefit for patients and he has an expert knowledge of these.

His research has been presented at many national and international conferences and has received awards from the American Gastroenterological Association, the British Society of Gastroenterology and the British Association of Study of the Liver. Some of this work has been patented at King’s College, London.

He is skilled in many aspects of endoscopy, colonoscopy and cancer screening of the stomach, bowel and the pancreas and has had advanced training at The Digestive Diseases Centre, Charleston, USA.

Now, he is part of the King’s College Hospital Liver and Pancreatic network and is the sole provider of Pancreatic and Biliary Endoscopic Ultrasound in Kent. In addition, he is the Lead Clinician for inflammatory bowel disease at Maidstone Hospital and has introduced a number of innovative treatments for this disease.

Bijay is the Director for training in Gastroenterology in the South East. He is responsible for delivering high quality training to aspiring gastroenterologists in South London, Kent, Sussex and Surrey and leads a team of doctors and educationalists.
